Ted talk: Diana Laufenberg - How to learn from failure.
Diana discusses the change in ways learners interact with information and the importance of experiential learning. Much of what she recommends meets the needs of gifted students, e.g. students engage in conceptual learning and have a great deal of choice about topic, process and product. Students were 'allowed' to fail because failure is instructional - this is so important for our gifted learners. An important part of their learning involves contributing something of benefit to others - "How do you plan to use your life to positively impact other people?" The Te Ao Whanui programme I developed for a Year 10 class at Edgecumbe College employed a similar approach.
